Your Expertise Is the Essential Input: What We Taught Omaha Leaders About AI

What an inspiring week leading a Grow With Google AI training in Omaha! A huge shout-out to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Delta Epsilon Omega Chapter for showing up in full force. Thank you to Greater Omaha Chamber for hosting this. The energy and excitement around AI's potential for their professional work were infectious.

Two valuable insights consistently dominate my AI workshops:

1. The Critical "Human in the Loop" Approach

While AI is incredibly effective at speeding up mundane tasks and processes we've been putting off, it can't act completely autonomously. I frequently see a common pitfall: people assume the computer's output is the best (or final) possible draft.

The Fix: You are still needed! Always review and edit AI outputs to ensure they accurately reflect your voice and intent, especially when sharing externally. The human in the loop is crucial for quality, nuance, and accuracy.

2. Prompting: Vague In, Vague Out

Believe it or not, writing a good prompt takes time. I often share this story:

A hair salon owner told me AI wasn't helping her. I asked what was her prompt: "Create a marketing plan for a hair salon business."

The Issue: That prompt was too vague. It resulted in generic, unhelpful content. The time spent creating a specific, detailed prompt on the front end saves far more time on the back end.

Key Takeaway: Know Your Tool's Limits

Can standalone chat tools do that very complicated task? Usually, the answer is "not exactly." AI won't accompany you to a networking event to and make small talk for you, but it will dramatically enhance your follow-up process.

AI is a powerful co-pilot. Embrace the technology, but remember: Your expertise is the most essential input.
